Biosketch: Prof. Hong graduated from College of Medicine, Seoul National University, Korea in 1983. He completed a Clinical Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Foundation between 1992 and 1994. He obtained the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology in 1994.
Prof. Hong has served at a director of Epilepsy and Sleep center since 1994 at Samsung Medical Center, Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul, Korea and established one of the best and largest Epilepsy and Sleep center in Korea. He has trained more than 50 sleep medicine fellows in Korea.
Prof. Hong founded and has served as a president of Korean Sleep Research Society with mainly neurologists in 2008 – 2012 and organized Korean Society of Sleep Medicine in 2006 with neurology, psychiatry, pulmonology, pediatrics, ENT, and dentist. He was a president of Korean Society of Sleep Medicine in 2011. He was a chair of scientific committee of World Congress of Sleep Apnea which was held in 2009, Seoul, Korea and a chair, organizing committee of WASM2015 congress in 2015, Seoul, Korea.

Prof. Hong organized Asian Society of Sleep Medicine (ASSM) in 2015 with 16 countries in Asia (Korea, China, India, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippine, Indonesia, Thailand, Iran, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Vietnam). The 2nd congress of ASSM was successfully held on March 22-25, 2018 in Seoul, Korea with 1,040 participants from 22 countries. Prof. Hong was a chair of organizing committee of the 2nd congress of ASSM. He is a current president of ASSM and is also Asia Representative in a governing council of World Sleep Society. Prof. Hong has greatly contributed for a reimbursement of polysomnography and nasal CPAP in Korea which were started on July 1, 2018.

Dr. Hong has published 260 research articles in Neurology, Brain, Annals of Neurology, Sleep, Sleep Medicine, Journal of Sleep Research, Epilepsia and Clinical Neurophysiology. He wrote 11 book chapters in the field of Neurology, Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine. His major research fields are neuroimaging studies in sleep disorders and epilepsy.

Prof. Hong has received 20 awards including Minister of Health and Welfare Award, Korean Neurological Association Award, Korean Epilepsy Society award, Korean Awards from Society of Sleep Medicine, Awards from Korean Sleep Reserch Society, Distinguished service award from WASM, Siemens Academic Award and so on.
